“Although ‘Bright Eyes’ was an exhillerating high point for us in 1979, Art Garfunkel’s magical vocal having taken it to number 1 in 6 countries I had been dissapointed not to have been asked to write the symphonic underscore. Years later when the ITV TV series was made, I was finally invited to create a symphonic score and songs. I was able to use and fully present many of the unused ideas I’d had back in 1976 when the feature film was being made, together with a lot of new tunes and songs. I also composed a symphonic suite (Watership Down Suite) which develops the material further.
