"I flew to Berlin to record the tracks. CBS Germany had booked me a great rhythm section, including the fantastic drummer Kurt Cress, and the studio was Hansa, which looked out right onto the Berlin wall, only a hundred yards or so away. In a way it was a miserable view. In fact it was in every way a miserable view, but the starkness of the wall gave a certain edge, a bleak coldness, to the work we did. I can’t quite explain it. It was of course, pre-wall-coming-down days, and the horror of the wall was a stark contrast to the high life of West Berlin, which was landlocked by Communist territory.
The studio sounded great. A big, village hall sized room with a bare plank wooden floor, and a Neve desk in the control room. The album suited the studio. It was a real experiment for me."
I returned to Antigua with the rhythm and orchestral tracks, and recorded my vocals and mixed the album at AIR studios in Montserrat.
