Winter Song Out Now

Mike Batt featuring Paul Carrack

‘Winter Song’

As the nights draw in, what better way to stave off the winter blues than with an uplifting song written by one of Britain’s finest songwriters, Mike Batt, and performed with warmth and soul by the inimitable Paul Carrack.

An instrumental version of ‘Winter Song’ first appeared in the TV series of Watership Down in 2000, with Mike writing the soundtrack for the entire series. Accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with Mike conducting from the piano, - this version of the song with Paul Carrack’s vocals, has been newly remastered for release.

Mike Batt said, "This release came about suddenly because a fan posted a version online, having heard it on the Watership Down TV series on YouTube! I found it very moving and the reaction on social media was similar.  Paul Carrack is one of the finest singers on the planet and I've been so lucky to work with him several times. The expected harshness of the oncoming winter sadly makes it even more relevant for today.”

No matter how cold the winter, no matter how deep the snow,
We will be warm again and the grass will grow.
No matter where life may take us, no matter how hard they try,
They will not break us, you and I.

Paul Carrack adds "I really enjoyed singing on Mike's track, ‘Winter Song’, and I feel it's very appropriate for the times in which we are living."

As well as his involvement in the TV series, Mike is also known as the writer of ‘Bright Eyes’ performed by Art Garfunkel for the original 1978 Watership Down film.
